La definizione di aranismo come elemento storico e storiografico
    in Nazioni e Regioni , n. 2 ,  2013 ,  57-82
The essay is centred on the definition of Aranism, a term signifying the political theory and praxis promoted by the Arana Goiri brothers. Such ideology has been considered according to the state of the art of research, hence in a comparative perspective with the Spanish National Catholicism of the XIX-XX centuries. The article is a critical review of the related bibliography, of historical literature and of the fundamental texts of early Basque nationalism; all different approaches in whose framework one has to find a shared and neutral definition. In this perspective, a survey is carried out on the existing historiographical paradigms on Aranism and on early Basque nationalism, emphasizing those interpretations that justify it as a form of local National Catholicism and therefore as the ideology of PNV’s orthodox right.
