    La Navarra sotto il franchismo: la lotta per il controllo provinciale tra i Governatori Civili e la Diputación Foral (1945-1955)

    This article analyzes the struggle for the political control of the province of Navarra that, under Franco’s dictatorship, opposed the civilian governors, representatives of central power and of the Party, to the Diputación Foral, the highest political body of the region. Navarra, loyal to Franco, but at the same time committed to the autonomy guaranteed by the foral regime, resisted the centralist offensive of the new regime that was embodied in the well-known «contrafueros» of the delegates Junquera and Valero Bermejo. The core arguments of the defensive strategy of the Navarran authorities were the remembrance of the sacrifice offered to the winners during the war and the recognition of the fueros as legitimate and inalienable rights. In the controversy, Franco ended up putting Navarra’s loyalty to his own regime before the demands of civilian governors that the province be put under the control of the Movement.
