According to Emerico Amari, leading actor of the Sicilian political events in 1848, Federalism and Constitutionalism are the two sides of the same medal. Guccione highlights that the Sicilian political philosopher not only supported the two ideas, but also – unlike from other Sicilians – dealt with Federalism and Constitutionalism by showing high proficiency in law and by giving a global view of his political reality. The paper also deals with Amari’s idea of progress that was contrary to Giovan Battista Vico’s theory.
