    The essay aims to reconstruct the philosophical and the political-cultural meaning of the interpretation of Machiavelli’s work which has been provided by Carlo Curcio. Starting from a careful analysis of the ethical-political value of the experience of ‘Risorgimento’, Curcio manages to find in Machiavelli a key-point for understanding the connection between tradition and revolution and for retrieving the tools that allow to determine a modern idea of nation, which is at the same time community of people and unitary institution.
