    The introduction in 2009 of the so-called fiscal stability clause in the German Basic Law has had a significant impact on the legal system of the EU and in its Member States. This paper discusses from a critical standpoint the fiscal stability clause with particular emphasis on its ideological fundaments and its possible ineffectiveness.
